Percy Ronald Deputy, Jr.
Percy Ronald Deputy, Jr. was born in Wilmington, Delaware. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on 11 February 1943. He would attend the Naval Air Technical Traning Center in Memphis, Tennessee and would be qualified as an Aerial Gunner. Mr. Deputy would then be assigned to Marine Bombing Squadron 433 stationed at Peter Field, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
His Squadron would then ship overseas to Green Island 17 May 1944, where they would start conducting both day time and night time Bombing raids. Mr. Deputy would spend numerous leaves in Sydney, Australia where he would meet Mrs. Gwen Taylor. He would end up marrying Mrs. Taylor in Sydney, Australia in late 1944. Mr. Deputy would earn the Air Medal as well as the rest of his crew with the exception of the pilot and co-pilot who earned the Distinguished Flying Cross for their actions during their missions over Gazelle Peninsula, Rabaul, Kavieng, and New Ireland.
At some point, Mr. Deputy would be wounded in action during a Bombing mission, further research must be conducted to better understand the situation as well as the date it occurred. Mr. Deputy would return stateside on 28 March 1945 and would serve stateside as well as on an Aircraft Carrier stationed off the coast of San Diego, California as an Aerial Gunner. Mr. Percy Ronald Deputy, Jr. would be Honrably Discharged from the United States Marine Corps on 2 February 1946.
